What is Tuina?
Tuina, also called Tui Na, is the medical manual therapy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is also known as Chinese massage or TCM massage. It includes various hand techniques such as stroking, grasping and pressing.
Unlike a wellness massage, I apply Tuina on the basis of a TCM diagnosis and a treatment plan. The treatment is therefore tailored to your complaints and to the findings from our conversation.
You can book Tuina as a standalone treatment. Depending on your complaints, I combine it in the same session with other TCM methods such as acupuncture, moxa or cupping.
When Tuina is used
Tuina is used mainly for complaints of the musculoskeletal system, but in TCM also for other complaints and in paediatrics. Whether Tuina suits your situation is something we discuss at the first appointment.

What to expect
Consultation and assessment
At the first appointment, we take 30–40 minutes for your medical history and for tongue and pulse diagnosis.
Treatment
The Tuina treatment is based on the findings. Depending on your complaints, I combine it with other methods.
After the treatment
You receive, for example, dietary or exercise recommendations. If you have questions, simply send me a WhatsApp message.
Your therapist
I am Pui Yee Li, an acupuncture and Tuina therapist with my own practice in Winterthur’s old town. I hold the OdA AM certificate in TCM – Acupuncture/Tuina and am EMR-registered.
Consultations and treatment are available in German, English and Chinese.
Fees and supplementary insurance
The fee is CHF 150 per hour. Before your appointment, please check with your supplementary insurer whether and to what extent they cover the treatment. Mention Tuina as the treatment method and me, Pui Yee Li, as the therapist.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book Tuina without acupuncture?
Yes. Tuina is a standalone treatment. If you would rather not have needles, there are other methods such as acupressure or laser.
How should I prepare?
You do not need special clothing. Please do not come on an empty stomach – for an early appointment, it is best to eat something small beforehand. Please do not drink alcohol before or shortly after the treatment.
What should I bring?
Bring any existing medical findings that are relevant to your complaints, for example an X-ray for a herniated disc. If you take medication, a list of your medications is helpful. You do not need to fill in a questionnaire beforehand; we take your medical history together in the practice.
How are follow-up appointments planned?
We usually arrange the next appointments directly in the practice. If you prefer flexibility, you can book online.
What is the cancellation policy?
If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance, the treatment is charged. Exceptions are an accident, a death in the family or a fever above 39 °C. The quickest way to reach me is by phone or message.
